Constructed by Power Construction Corporation of China, the 456-megawatt Upper Tamakoshi hydropower project, so far the largest hydropower project in Nepal, has been successfully handed over recently and is expected to will greatly ease the power supply shortage in Nepal.
Located at an altitude of more than 2,000 meters in the southern foothills of the Himalayas, the Upper Tamakoshi hydropower project has built a 27-meter-high concrete dam with maximum effective storage capacity of 2.2 million cubic meters.
The UpperTamakoshi hydropower station will contribute about 1 percent to Nepal's GDP and provide a strong guarantee for Nepal's power supply, said local energy-related official.
