2019 Silk Road International Youth Sand Painting Competition is one of the most important activities of the Silk Road & Young Dreams project. It is a youth-oriented cultural exchange platform along the “Belt and Road” countries, which was initiated by the Silk Road Cities Alliance and jointly launched in collaboration with the Beijing Belt and Road Cooperative Community and Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies of Renmin University of China. The fundamental goal of the project is to provide the youth of countries and cities along the “Belt and Road” Initiative with a stage to demonstrate their talents and potentials, a platform to feel the pulse of the modern era and share dreams, and a bridge to link societies.

Sand Painting is a popular internationally kind of art for young people. The purpose of the competition is to connect people with different sort of talents and promote painting and calligraphy. The competition is inspired by the spirit of the “Harmony, Beauty, Cooperation” combination. We are looking forward to meeting professional sand artists, young artists and new friends with the same mindset to take part in our competition. Welcome everyone to participate in the Sand Painting contest, we can’t wait to see all of you next year!
The theme of the works:
Self-improvement through promoting friendship and cooperation with positive energy. The work must be original and exclusive.
Video requirements:
Video submissions for entry into the Sand Painting contest shall have the following requirements:
Monochromatic light;
Single-colored or colorful sand;
The length of the video should not exceed 7 minutes, acceleration and editing are forbidden;
MP4 format;
The size of the video should not exceed 100MB;
No watermark is allowed.
(Notice: The colorful sand will be provided for the finalists by the organizing committee. Eight colors: pink, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple and natural sand. Please pay attention to the selection.)

Competition notice:
Participants in the Sand Painting competition will be required to pay a review fee of 300RMB. 50 participants, who will be selected to semi-finals, will be required to pay an entry fee of 1800RMB (There will be no refund if the application is accepted). Overseas participant is exempt from the review and entry fee.
Young sand painting amateurs from all countries are welcome to sing up for the competition.

Domestic semi-finalists and finalists will cover travel expenses and accommodation in Beijing. Overseas semi-finalists and finalists will cover travel expenses and the Organizing Committee will cover the accommodation in Beijing.
The Organizing Committee of the competition has the right to use the works of the participants in the media, internet and other resources in order to promote the competition. The exhibition of the works will be held after the competition.

Launching Ceremony: Launching Ceremony of 2019 Silk Road International Youth Sand Painting Competition

Registration period: Participants send their work to the email for preselection.
March 1st– March 5th, 2019
Preselection: Judges will evaluate the works and select Top-50 outstanding candidates to participate in semi-finals.
March 7th , 2019
Semi-finalists announcement:
The list of 50 semi-finalists will be announced via the contest information platforms. The candidates will be contacted by phone or WeChat.
April 12th, 2019
Competition in Beijing:
Top-50 sand painting works will participate in semi-finals in April 2019 in Beijing. The works from the selection period can be used in semi-finals, but not in finals (the duration of the performance should not exceed 7 min). Top-10 works will be accepted to the finals.
April 13th, 2019
Finals:
The order of the sand painting performances in finals will be chosen randomly (the duration of the final works are also limited to 7 min). The judges will evaluate the works on spot. According to the scores, the judges will select 1 Champion, 1 First Runner-up, 1 Second Runner-up. 7 other participants will be entitled as the most potential sand painting artists.

Leaders from the Silk Road countries, Ambassadors to China, Chinese national cultural institutions, famous directors, painters, musicians, writers and sand painters will attend the ceremony.

Preselection works:
All candidates, who signed up for the competition, will be awarded the Outstanding Participant Certificate of the International Sand Painting Competition by Silk Road Cities Alliance;
All candidates, who signed up for the competition, will be awarded the signed edition prose book “Shajianji” by Su Dabao.
Semi-finals (50 works):
Semi-finalists will be awarded the Top-50 Outstanding Participants Certificate;
Semi-finalists will be awarded the Top-50 Outstanding Participants Medals.
Finals:
Finalists will be granted with the certificates, trophies and prizes;
The first prize is 5000RMB; the second prize - 4000RMB; the third prize - 3000RMB;
The Champion, First Runner-up and Second Runner-up will receive the “Silk Road Sand Art Artist” Certificate and will be granted the opportunity to join the overseas tour of Su Dabao.
