The Introduction to the 2019 Silk Road & Young Dreams

Origin: Silk Road Cities Alliance 

 

Silk Road & Young Dreams, a youth-oriented cultural exchange project along the Silk Road, was jointly initiated by Silk Road Cities Alliance, Beijing Belt and Road Cooperative Community and Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies of Renmin University of China. The fundamental goal of the project is to provide the youth of countries and regions along the Silk Road who have different backgrounds and dreams, with a stage to shine with talents and potentials, a platform to feel the pulse of the present era and share dreams, as well as a bridge to link up societies. The first Silk Road & Young Dreams was held in August 2018 in Beijing with nearly 100 participants from 26 countries. In 2019, China Friendship Foundation for Peace and Development will be added as a co-host.

Silk Road & Young Dreams activity greatly enhances the people-to-people connection among the youth along the Silk Road. Once launched, its rich content and flexible format has been well received by young people. It is decided that on April 12th – 14th, the 2nd Silk Road & Young Dreams will be held in Beijing. It is also determined to expand its content and enhance its quality, making it a supporting project for the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation. 

  

The main features of the 2nd Silk Road & Young Dreams activity are as follows: 

1. The Belt and Road international cooperation initiated by China and supported by international community aims to improve people’s welfare. All the projects should be carried out while putting people first. The 2nd Silk Road & Young Dreams will put emphasis on this theme by seeking for good ideas, project cases, experience and mode to push forward the sound and sustainable development of the Belt and Road building which eventually benefits people along the Belt and Road.  

2. Richer content 

Apart from the competitions of Speech, Music and Photography took place in 2018, Sand Painting and E-sports are newly added in the coming activity in 2019, which will be well received by young people and highlight the charm of creative culture. In addition, Youth Cooperation Forum, Youth Essay Contest, Youth Interview and Youth Association activities will be held.

3. Larger scale 

All five groups are fair, just and open through the first and second elections and finals. There will be nearly 1000 people participate during the first election. 300  members from 50 countries will have the opportunities to reach the finals. 

4. Better team and institution 

China Friendship Foundation for Peace and Development, China Media Group and the UN offices in China will be invited as hosts and co-organizers to provide more professional support, guarantee the improvement of the activitys quality.  

5. The principle of public interests, openness and fairness and flexible mechanisms for social operation will be insisted. With the scale expanding and the content enriching, more and more social resources are need. The funds raised will be exclusively used for the projects. Also, the budget for each part will be raised separately. The project's prior budget and after-the-sale will be calculated. 

6. As an institutionalized and sustainable annual international youth-oriented cultural exchange project, Silk Road & Young Dreams will adhere to the direction of people-to-people connection of “Belt and Road Initiative”, continue to innovate forms, enrich the content, convey the spirit of "Belt and Road Initiative", and consolidate the foundation of youth friendliness in accordance to the actual needs of the Belt and Road construction and the particular theme of international youth cultural exchanges to contribute the long-term development of the cause of “Belt and Road Initiative”.

Organizers 

 

WFCMS Silk Road Cities Alliance (SRCA) was initiated by Chinese and international public figures in 2017. It aims to promote cooperation in health industry along the Silk Road and facilitate the globalization of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). With the aim to promote cooperation in various fields among cities lying along the "One Belt and One Road" route by mobilizing, organizing and coordinating domestic and overseas social resources, thus driving the cities and people in them to join in "the Belt and Road Initiative" to achieve common development and prosperity.

 

China Friendship Foundation for Peace and Development is a national 4A-level public fund-raising foundation approved by the Ministry of Civil Affairs of the People's Republic of China. It is founded by the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries. It was established in Beijing in 1996 to strengthen the friendly relations between the Chinese people and people from countries around the world, promoting international cooperation, safeguarding world peace, and bringing common development.

 

Beijing Belt & Road Cooperative Community (BRCC) is an NGO that serves the development of the "Belt & Road Initiative” (BRI). It focuses on promoting the cooperation among people from the countries along the "Belt & Road" in the areas of culture, people to people exchange and professional cooperation. Based in Beijing, BRCC has been registered with the Beijing Municipal Civil Affairs Bureau in 2018.

 

Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies at Renmin University of China (RDCY) was established in 2013.  It is a new style think tank with Chinese characteristics with more than 90 former politicians, bankers, and prominent scholars from over 10 countries as senior fellows. It also maintains cooperation with think tanks from over 30 countries. At present, RDCY consists of 7 departments, and features 3 research centers (the Center for Eco-Financial Studies, Global Governance Research Center, and the Sino-US People-to-People Exchange Research Center).
