SRCA keeps expanding new and deepening already existing relations with Ukrainian organizations and companies. 15th of April, 2018 was marked with another very important meeting – SRCA was welcoming the Governor of Ukraine`s Sumy region Mr. Mykola Klochko with his spouse Mrs. Snizhana Klochko and the advisor of the Governor Mr. Yuriy Dudchenko in the Beijing office of the Silk Road Cities Alliance.
It was not the first meeting between the leadership of the Sumy region and SRCA. Secretary General of Silk Road Cities Alliance Madam Wu had met with Mr. Klochko previously during the II Ukrainian Silk Road Forum, held in the capital of Ukraine Kyiv in November last year. Memorandum of Understanding had been signed at the event between the two sides and the exchange of information about the projects was further conducted on the lower levels in order to establish closer cooperation.
The recent meeting was held in a very cordial manner and became a further step in the relations of SRCA and Sumy region. The following subjects were discussed during the meeting: Sumy region investment projects (including the two industrial parks of the Sumy region), examples of successful cooperation between the Chinese and Ukrainian companies on the projects, membership of the Sumy region cities in the Silk Road Cities Alliance, infrastructure construction, tourism, holding joint events and other topics.
Introduction of the Sumy region
Sumy region is situated in the North East of Ukraine and is adjacent on the North and East to the Russian Federation region of Bryansk, Kursk and Belgorod. The distance from Sumy to Ukraine's capital city, Kyiv, is 350 kilometres away by train and 359 kilometres away by the most efficient road connection.

- Extractive industry (especially oil)
- Machine engineering, metal-working industry
- Chemical and petrochemical industry
- Food and agriculture
The extractive industry of Sumy Region is well developed. There is extracted 40% of the national volume of oil in the region. The extraction of high-quality quartzites (content SiO2 – 98-99%) used for production of silicon and ferro-alloys is at high level.
The machine-building and metal-working are leading branches of the regional industry in the conditions of market transformation. The machine-building complex of Sumy Region is specialized on production of hi-tech chemical and oil-extracting equipment, gas-compressor plants, pumps, industrial pipeline armature, technological equipment for processing industries of agroindustrial complex, facilities of automation and others.
The enterprises of chemical and petrochemical industry provide great payment in the regional general industrial production volume (10%). The basic chemical production and chemical-photographic industry prevail in the structure of this branch so its enterprises produce mineral fertilizers, sulphuric acid, mineral pigments, forage additives, chemical reagents, paint and varnish products, magnetic ribbon, picture film, industrial rubber wares and others.
The food is the leading industry of the region. For the last years the most direct foreign investments were attracted in this sphere. The most powerful enterprise of this branch not only in the region but also in Ukraine is the Chocolate Factory "Kraft Foods Ukraine". The row of high rewards were obtained by products of the Romen Bread-Backing Plant, JSC «Konotopmyaso» and JSC "Shostka Milk Factory". The trade mark "Bili Beregy" of the Shostka Milk Factory has been acknowledged by the best trade mark of Ukraine in the National Rating. The products of the JSC «Romen Milk Factory» were awarded with golden medals in the National Rating "Best Trade Marks of Ukraine" in 2002. In the exhibition-competition of dairy commodity producers of Ukraine the butter "Vologodske" and cheese "Rosiysky" of the JSC "Okhtyrka Cheese-Making Factory" won golden medals and were acknowledged by the most best in Ukraine. The vodka "Dvoryanska" of the LLC "Gorobyna" was awarded with Diploma for the first place in the Exhibition "Alco-Soft-2002" in Kyiv.
Sumy Region is the agrarian land. For the last three years the manufacturing of gross production in all categories of facilities has been increased by 29.6%. The production of food corn, sugar beets, winter and spring rape, oil radish, sunflower, flax, hemps, groats crops and potato is priority one in the plant growing in Sumy Region.
The stock-raising industry of the region is specialized on breeding of milk and meat cattle, pigs and poultry. The positive dynamics characterizes the production of basic types of stock-raising products. So, in 2002 the production of meat, milk and eggs has been significantly increased.
The regional investment potential is extended. The important source of investments in the fixed assets is the personal funds of enterprises (over 80%). In 2002 the investors from 21 countries of the world invested more than USD 4.5 million of direct foreign investments in the regional economy.
Sumy region attractions
With no less than 165 rivers flowing through this spectacular piece of land, the Sumy Oblast lures many nature enthusiasts. The forests are dense and breathtaking and visitors are guaranteed to see many different tree species and various forms of wildlife. Most tourists enjoy these reserve areas for their tranquility and beauty, while others enjoy them for the mystery they seem to hold.
The history of Putivl, Glukhov, Romny follows from depth of years, which enrolled in the list of major historical cities of Ukraine. The above cities have huge unused historical and cultural potential for tourism development. They are a part of tourist route "A Necklace of Slavutych".
Undoubtedly, the unforgettable impressions stay after visiting Glukhov – one of most ancient cities of Ukraine, which dated back to 1152. It is former capital of Getmans Ukraine, native land of the outstanding figures.

Environment
The Sumy Oblast contains 168 objects and territories of natural reserve. The region is rich in picturesque banks of numerous rivers, and sources of mineral waters. Major environmental problems are: soil erosion, pesticide pollution, air and water pollution. The city has a problem of garbage utilization. The only place for pesticide utilization in Ukraine is Shostka, Sumy region.
